PLAYER DEVELOPMENT SYSTEM (PDS)

What is the Player Development System (PDS)?

The PDS is a system to develop young soccer players to reach his/her full potential as a soccer player. Upon completion of the program the player should have the ability to carry on his/her soccer playing at a higher, more competitive level. The system is open to both boys and girls ages 6-10 with or without soccer experience.

Where and when will it be?

The program will be at Ghent Elementary School on a beautiful grass surface that will help to develop necessary skills. The course runs for 8 weeks. There will be a one hour development training sessions on Monday and Thursday evenings from 5:30-6:30 pm. On Saturdays at 12:30 pm there will be a “Play Day” in which the players will get to play in a game environment.

How much does the program cost?

The cost for the 8 weeks/24 session program is$150 which includes a PDS T-shirt. Registrations received after this date will incurre a $25.00 late fee.

How will the training sessions be run?

The ages of 6-10 are very important years to develop basic necessary soccer skills. We have taken the model used by the most successful soccer clubs in Europe to ensure that each player gets hundreds of touches on the ball in each development session. Individual development will be the main emphasis during the ten weeks. The coaching staff will be made up of some of the best coaches in the Norfolk area including local coaches, ex-players and current players from Old Dominion University.

What will happen on the Saturday ‘Play Day’?

Each Saturday the players will be randomly split up into 3v3 or 4v4 teams and will play a series of 12 minute games. After each game the player will be randomly placed on another team with different team-mates. This ensures equal playing time for each player and maximum touches of the ball. We will not keep a record of the results and will not have any league table. We will focus on individual development over team success. During the ten week period we will have special “soccer festivals” in which the players will be placed in a tournament format. Coaches will facilitate the ‘Play Days’ and ‘festivals’.
